Processing Aid Masterbatches
We take away the pressure…
Processing Aid Masterbatches for polyolefines improve the result of your extrusion process, increase your output and decrease your energy consumption
The chemical base of Processing Aid Masterbatches are waxes and special fluorine polymers with a defined molecular weight range, which are incompatible in common polyolefines and therefore show an enormous tendency to migrate to the surface of the polymer, already during extrusion. To metal surfaces they show a certain affinity and therefore they build up a thin fluorine polymer film within the processing machine, with an extremely low surface energy. This film acts as a slip layer between polymer and screw, extruder barrel or nozzle. The velocity profile of the polymer melt gets more consistent and the melt viscosity of the polymer is reduced. Because of the reduced flow instability, surface defects like melt fracture or the notoriously “shark-skin”, are effectually eliminated.
Processing Aid Masterbatches already act at a low dosage, therefore there is no impact at all to subsequent surface processing steps like printing, sealing and welding or to the transparency.
The conscious application of high concentrations of the fluorine polymer reduces the wettability of polymer surfaces with liquids (hydrophobic effect).
Recoverable benefits:
- Improved surface quality of extruded films, profiles and pipes
- Increased output with less energy consumption
- Less deposit on nozzles
- Lower processing temperatures
- Thermoplastics with lower melt index (higher strength) could be applied
- Manufacturing process gets more consistent
- Minor machine wear-out
Typical applications:
- Blown and cast film extrusion
- Blow molding
- Pipe and profile extrusion
- Wire and cable extrusion
- Surface modification
