The hygroscopic (water attracting) antistatic additives migrate to the surface of the plastic parts or films and depending on the air humidity build up a water film with variable “thickness”. Therefore electrostatic charges dissipate and consequently dust attraction and spark discharges were avoided. Plastic films, fibers and tapes can be processed without problems and separated as normal.

The relative humidity is the determining factor for efficiency. According to standard, surface resistivity measurements should be made at 50 % relative air humidity and 23 °C room temperature; below 50 % air humidity the moisture film is build up insufficiently – the efficiency is lost.

Attention! In case of printing, varnishing, sealing or welding, the moisture film can impair the adhesion. We suggest preliminary tests.

Short-term antistatic agents are spontaneously effective for a few weeks.

Long-term antistatic agents are effective not before 24 – 48 hours but then for some months.

By means of combining these two types of antistatic agents, the efficiency could be increased due to synergistic effects.

Permanent antistatic agents are creating a color-neutral, transparent network of structures in the polymer matrix, which facilitates the dissipation of electrostatic charge (no migration, no moisture film, therefore independent from air moisture).

Conductive Masterbatches or Compounds as a rule are based on conductive carbon black (no migration, no moisture film, therefore independent from air moisture).

Combi Masterbatches with colors are available as well.
