Slippery as an eel ...

CORDULENregistered Slip-Masterbatches increase the slip properties of polymer parts, act as flow improver, increase the dispersion of fillers and pigments or improve the surface gloss.

Application

Internal slip agent combinations which either act: a) as an internal slip agent in the plastified melt or b) as an external slip agent at the plastic surface of the finished part or c) as release agent resp. mould release agent

Effect

Internal slip agents act in different ways depending on their chemical structure:
  1. Internal slip agents are viscosity reducers which increase the melt flow index of the polymer melt. For this reason there is less friction with the processing of plastics in the plastified melt. This prevents the local superheating due to shearing action. Principally internal slip agents keep up all properties of plastics.
  2. External slip agents influence the surfaces of plastics. An invisible, permanent grease film is formed on the surface providing plastics with slipping ability (slip effect).
  3. Release agents reduce the adhesive strength of plastic melts and of hot plastic products at metal sides. Mould release agents reduce the release resistance respectively the adherence of the plastic product to the surfaces of the tool.

All additives have a more or less strong influence on the surface. Possible effects of the adhesives on the following working stages (welding, sticking, printing, lacquering etc.) at moulded parts should be determined in a preliminary test.

Dosage

The properties of the surface of the finished part are essentially influenced by the concentration of the additive. Small amounts of slip respectively external slip agents reduce the roughness of the surface; high concentration can provide surfaces with greasy properties. The flow ability of the polymer melt is regulated via the concentration of the additive.

Polymers

Our Masterbatches are, depending on the used carrier polymer, suited for the following applications:
  • PE-LD, PE-HD, PE-LLD as well as Copolymers and mixtures of it.
  • PP-Homo, PP-Copo, PP-Random
  • EVA, EBA, Uni
  • PA 6, PA 6.6, PA 11, PA 12
  • PS and Styrenics (e.g. ABS, SAN)
  • PET, PET-G
  • PC

Food contact approval

In general, nearly all of the active agents are admitted within the usual dosage, according to the BfR-recommendations.
The particular data can be taken out of the product information sheets.
Approvals of other authorities, especially FDA- and EC-approvals are present in most cases and are available, if required.
