The compatibility of the Masterbatch is largely ruled by the carrier polymer. Different carbon black grades will rule the properties and the application of the Masterbatch. Colour-strength, colour-tone, gloss, dispersibility, conductivity, opacity, process-parameters and not at least the price are properties determined by the carbon black type. High-quality grades show besides the colouristic properties additional benefits like UV-protection achieved with a fine grained carbon black.
We distinguish our carbon black grades in SRF-, HAF-, P- and Jet-black grades. Physically, these are mainly differentiated in particle size which decreases in the mentioned order. In the same sequence the tint strength increases. So the choice of an apparently "cheaper" Masterbatch with a low quality carbon black grade can be more expensive than the lower dosage of a high quality grade Masterbatch.

Special grades - SG
Apart from the above mentioned Carbon black grades, there are some special grades used like conductive-structure Carbon black or non-conductive carbon black. Some Masterbatch grades contain antioxidants or flow improvement additives for film or fibre-applications.
Food contact approval
Mostly all of our Black- and Grey-Masterbatches fulfil the currently valid BfR-recommendation IX with regard to the use in food contact applications. The European directive 2007/19/EC valid from 1st May 2009 is already fulfilled by several of our Black- and Grey-Masterbatches. Product recommendations and detailed admission requirements are available on request.
