How plastics remain forever young ...

Antioxidant-Masterbatches (Thermostabilizer) protect your polymer against damages, induced by thermal, mechanical or chemical influences which limit the functionality of your product.

Plastic generally ages rapidly under the effects of light, oxygen and heat or catalyst residues leading to loss of strength, stiffness, or flexibility, discoloration scratching and loss of gloss. Once the polymer is exposed to further shear stress, heat, light, air, water, radiation, or mechanical loading, chemical reactions start in the polymer which has the net result of changing the chemical composition and the molecular weight of the polymer. These reactions, in turn, lead to a degradation of the physical and optical properties of the polymer. In practice, any change of the polymer properties relative to the initial, desirable properties is called degradation. In this sense, "degradation" is a generic term for all reactions which are possible in a polymer except curing. In most of the polymers reactions generate an "Auto-Oxidation-Process". This means that once oxidation starts - which it always will - it sets off a chain reaction which accelerates degradation unless stabilizers are used to interrupt the oxidation cycle.

Universal Oxidation Stabilizers

Universal thermostabilizer Masterbatches are used to prevent oxidation of polymers by heat, especially during processing but also in application (automotive application, motor housing, underfloor heating and warm water pipes, cable insulation, agriculture films, film tapes ...). This type of stabilizer Masterbatches acts by stopping temperature- and peroxide induced oxidation.

Processing Stabilizers

Processing stabilizers prevent and delay degradation by heat and oxidation during the polymer processing at elevated temperatures or rather by multiple extrusions of recycling polymer. The MFR remains constant over a wide range of temperature.

Long Term Thermo Stabilization

This group of antioxidant and heat-stabilizer Masterbatches improves the long-term-thermo-stabilization (LTTS) of polymers against oxidative influences and protects profiles, sheets and injection moulded PP-parts against thermo-oxidative degradation. They're used especially where polymers have to act at elevated temperatures for long times like in automotive applications.

Metal Desactivation

Metal desactivator (copper stabilizer) protects the thermoplastic polymer against catalytic thermo-oxidative influences which are caused by a direct contact with non-ferrous metal (copper, brass, nickel, etc), either during the processing (by rests of catalysts or colour pigments) or during the application of the final product (wire- and cable insulations, floor heating tubes, sprayed non-ferrous metals). The aggressive metal is shielded by a coordinated-complex. Additionally, the polypropylene is protected against thermal and oxidative degradation in permanently used temperatures up to 120º C.

Polymers

Our Masterbatches are, depending on the used carrier polymer, suited for the following applications:
  • PE-LD, PE-HD, PE-LLD as well as Copolymers and mixtures of it
  • PP-Homo, PP-Copo, PP-Random
  • EVA, EBA, Uni
  • PA 6, PA 6.6, PA 11, PA 12
  • PS and Styrolcopolymere (e.g. ABS, SAN)
  • PC

Food contact approval

In general, nearly all of the active agents are admitted within the usual dosage, according to the BfR-recommendations.
The particular data can be taken out of the product information sheets.
Approvals of other authorities, especially FDA- and EC-approvals are present in most cases and are available, if required.
